Slowly, I started becoming conscious of the internet replacing many traditional systems. I took notice that big organizations such as Nestle and Coke are no longer announcing their prizes under the cap, or inside the wrap; instead, they are providing their customers with pins. These pin numbers are to be entered on their website in order for the customer to retrieve his/her prize. Medium-sized companies are wildly placing links to their web pages almost everywhere and anywhere they can get their hands on. The question here is, when did everyone become so obsessed with increasing traffic to their websites, and who is responsible? At first I thought advertising had to do a lot with it; I believed that the more traffic a website gets, the higher its advertising rate becomes. Although this is true, today’s internet world constitutes of one powerful tool, search engines! Little did I know that search engines such as Google and Yahoo are responsible for the big shift in internet marketing; more importantly, that they are in full control of today’s market. In regards to search engines, increasing traffic to a website, increases the visibility on search listings. Naturally, increased visibility results in a higher number of visitors and thus, in higher profits.
So when did ranking high on search engines become as relevant and effective as expensive internet advertising? The answer, when the internet no longer became a place just for big multi-million companies. The truth is that the power of the internet empowered millions of entrepreneurs, local shops, home businesses and small internet business. Truthfully, not everyone can afford the price of Click Ads, internet marketing and website advertising. Thus, more and more companies are looking for cheaper methods that can increase their visibility online, without having to spend thousands of dollars every month. At the present, search engines provide a cheap and almost free method to be listed on the internet. Also, they come with a great advantage; customers are proactively using them to get to the desired services and products. Therefore, not only is it important to be among the first listed on search pages, but also to stay on top of competitors.
This is where the search engine optimization (SEO) comes to play. Customers search Google by typing a certain keyword, Google then lists all companies that it finds relevant to these key words. The job of SEO is to increase business’s chances of relevancy in regards to the key words that best fit their industry. Seo also optimizes a website by adding links, clean coding it, and re-arranging it’s copy-writing. Many also offer ongoing support by continuously adding fresh content and links, ensuring that their customers are ranked at the top at all times. So, can Seo with its cost effective solutions and tangible results be the future of internet marketing? It sure looks like it!
