Getting back with your ex is not really as impossible as you think if you know what mistakes to avoid and what you can do to improve the situation. Sometimes, the more problematic question is, "Should I get my ex back?"

The answer to this question will really depend on what stages of break up you are at. Have you just broken up a few days ago, or have you already broken up with your ex for quite a long some time. Let's us look at them now.

1) You have just broken up recently

If you have just broken up recently, I would advise you not to make any decision now. This is definitely not a good timing for you to make any decision.

You are probably at a loss now, having just gone through a devastating moment of your life. You are probably quite confused and any decision that you make is probably not going to be what you really want.

Be patient and be kind to yourself. Give yourself at least a month to recover from the trauma. Once your emotion is more stable, you will be in a much better position to make a decision on whether you want to get your ex back or whether you should move on.

2) You have already broken up for quite some time

I am going to assume that your ex is still single and available in the following discussion. If he/she is already attached, I wouldn't recommend you to get him/her back. Of course, ultimately, it is you who will have to decide what you want.

a) You still have feelings for him/her

Obviously, you need to consider whether you still have any feelings for him/her. Since you are reading this article now, I assume you have.

b) Does he/she still has feelings for you

This is a bit harder to tell. You can tell whether you have feelings for someone but it is hard to do otherwise.

Here are a few guidelines.
i) Does he/she still call you at least occasionally?
This is a possible sign that he/she still want you back. If he/she wants a clean break, then he/she will not bother to call you.

ii) Are both of you still friends

When I say friends, I am referring to whether both of you still go out together. If yes, it doesn't mean anything. But think about it, if both of you still go out together, don't you think you stand a higher chance to create that spark again? You may be able to get your ex back.
