It is a sad but true statistic that half or more of marriages today will end in divorce. The reasons for divorce are many and usually it will take more than one irreconcilable difference to cause one. If you find yourself facing a divorce and you are afraid that it will turn terribly ugly, chances are you may be right.

Usually by the time people end up in divorce court, the lines of communication between them are either severed or severely damaged. It is a rare couple that can go through divorce and do so smiling and perfectly contented on both sides. There will almost always be hard feeling on one side or the other.

Custody issues about children and the dividing of property are the main points of contention in most divorces. While some divorcing couples will usually find some way to compromise, if only to get the divorce finalized, other divorcing couples will fight until the bitter end to get their way. It is like their final battle ground of the dying marriage and they are determined to win.

When you love your children dearly and are getting divorced, it is always the best thing for them if they are able to have a continuous relationship with both parents. Sometimes in the event that one parent is abusive, has drug or alcohol issues, or is just undependable and irresponsible, the children can be at risk in their care.

This is an issue worth fighting over. Supervised visitation is often the answer if it can be agreed upon. Children are the biggest casualty of divorce and both adults should be able to realize this and minimize the devastation to their children, but unfortunately this is not often enough the case.

People really hate to come out on the short end of the stick when property is divided in divorce cases. Sometimes one or both will be practically financially ruined because of divorce.

If you want out of a relationship bad enough and the other person does not, you may have to sacrifice some things for your freedom. One partner might feel that if they can not keep you, then they will just have to settle with keep all your stuff instead!

In a perfect world people would never get divorced, but we all know that nothing, especially relationships, are never perfect. Whoever it was that said all is fair in love and war, had probably already been through a divorce or two!
