You might not think that one small diamond by itself could make much of a jewelry statement. In fact, quite the opposite is true.

Depending on its placement, it can make a really bold statement that can not possibly be ignored. From noses to ties, to ears, the diamond stud adorns them all.

The nose piercing originated in the Middle East approximately 4000 years ago. It is still common in the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Arab countries. A lot of these countries use a gold hoop for their nose piercing. In Pakistan they only use a small diamond stud.

In India the left side of the nostril is pierced because this is believed to help in the process of childbirth by Ayurvedic medicine. It supposedly coincides somehow with the female reproductive organs. It was a mark of social standing and beauty. It was also a sign of honor by Hindus to their marriage god, Parvathi.

Nose piercing has been a new trend in European and Western civilizations since the hippie generation in the 1960's and 1970's. It seemed to die down for a little while and then made a new comeback with the punk rock culture of the eighties.

Pierced noses have been around ever since then and have become even more in vogue today. To go with their pierced noses, the eyebrows, lip, tongue, and multiple ear piercings have been added. The diamond studs are used frequently in the ears. They can graduate in size to the top of the ear, or can all be one size.

In history past and in some other cultures, the piercing of one ear or the other on a man has not been that unusual a thing. But as other piercings have grown, so has piercing both ears on a man. The diamond stud earring has taken on a life of its own in this jewelry area.

It is a huge fashion statement in the hip hop scene. It gives men a chance to wear an added piece of jewelry that gives an elegant touch, but it is also usually considered very sexy.

Since the turn of the 20th century when neckties became the style for men, the tie tac has also found a great place to show off a single diamond. It seems that as long as there is just one diamond left available anywhere, someone will be able to find a great place to put it.
