Even thought the latest threat, Hurricane Fay, may only reach a category one or possibly two by the time she lands, it is still a big reason for concern if you are one of the people who has a home or business that is located in her path.
Tropical Strom Fay has already claimed at least five lives that we know of in the Dominican Republic and in Haiti. It has been passing over Eastern Cuba and progressing to Western Cuba Sunday night. It will reach the Florida Keys sometime Monday and the coast of Southern Florida probably by Monday night. The storm is likely to dump from four to twelve inches of rain and have winds of up to one hundred miles per hour.
Florida residents are already preparing themselves for the big storm and have evacuation plans ready. These people are well versed in what needs to be done to either evacuate or ride out weather like this. Although it is not recommended that people stay when evacuation is recommended, many will decide to anyway and risk the danger. This is not a good idea because sometimes those who choose to stay end up having to be rescued and evacuated anyway. It is usually just better to go ahead and go when you can in the first place.
The Governor of Florida is urging residents to stay on top of the weather reports and for more information suggested the website Florida Disaster. Hopefully Hurricane Fay will only leave a minor mark on the state unlike some of the more severe hurricanes of the past have done. You must give the people who live in the paths of hurricane threats credit for their resilience. They can be struck time after time and simply rebuild and every time.
You really have to love a place a lot to risk this sort of danger and upheaval every year, but almost anywhere you live probably poses a risk of some kind, in Florida it just happens to be hurricanes and the majority of the people who live there will tell you that they would not want to live anywhere else
